Monkey Paw

One player makes a wish. Everyone else writes the catch that makes them regret it.

Svelte / TypeScript / WebSocket

A party game with no cards. The chooser writes a wish; everyone else writes the twist that ruins it; the chooser picks the one that hurt most. Because the content is typed rather than dealt, it never repeats and never runs out.

Free text changes the failure modes

A card game can always play a random card for someone who has gone quiet. You cannot autogenerate a person's joke — so a timed-out player gets a funny stock line instead of an empty slot, and three consecutive misses flips their paw over until they come back.

The paw is the clock, then it isn't

Each player's paw closes a finger per wish they spend. Round count is fixed when the game starts, so somebody who wanders off ends with fingers still up — a visible record of having been away — rather than holding the game open forever.
